About Me
Overview
My name is Pablo Correa and I’ve been working as a Building Performance Consultant for the last 10 years.
I’ve worked for companies of all sizes. Always seeking new challenges and opportunities to expand my knowledge and deepen my understanding of energy efficiency, building performance, and sustainability.
My background is not in Architecture or Building Services Engineering, which has allowed me to bring a more independent and unbiased perspective to the sector. And I’ve actively sought the best training and experience from a variety of sources, which allows me to understand the subject from different perspectives, gain greater clarity, and deliver the best advice.

My focus is now on providing more approachable and personalised advice across my areas of expertise to different people in the sector.
My story in this sector
I started working in this field as the Non-Domestic Energy Assessor at Focus Consultants, based in the UK, modelling buildings for energy regulations compliance and EPCs. Soon after, I also started working and leading on overheating risk assessments, thermal comfort analyses, daylighting… basically, all dynamic simulations with IES. I also helped set up the thermal bridge analysis service and gave a hand with Sustainability and Energy Statements for planning applications, as well as reports for BREEAM.
After nearly four years there, I decided to give freelancing a try and moved back to Spain. I kept working on the same areas for different UK companies, of medium and small sizes. Even as small as a single person!
At the same time, my interest grew on the emerging area of operational energy modelling — CIBSE TM54 and NABERS UK Design for Performance (DfP).
After two years of freelancing, I found the opportunity of joining Cundall at their Spanish office in Madrid. Where I got training and some experience in NABERS UK DfP and started to learn how to model HVAC systems in detail using IES ApacheHVAC.
Then, another opportunity came with an even bigger multinational, AECOM, also in Madrid. In this role I continued developing my expertise in operational energy and detailed HVAC modelling, in this case mainly using the ASHRAE 90.1 – Appendix G methodology for international LEED projects.

My next move was to work fully remotely for London-based Greengage Environmental. In this senior position, I continued leading in operational energy modelling for projects involving NABERS DfP, CIBSE TM54, and net zero carbon targets. I also returned to carrying out and supervising work in UK Regulations compliance (Part L and Part O), planning applications, thermal comfort and daylighting assessments for BREEAM.
Additionally, I set up the thermal bridging and hygrothermal risk assessment services, and had the opportunity to explore a new and exciting area: modelling green infrastructure at neighbourhood scale using ENVI-met to assess its benefits for urban heat island mitigation. For that, I had to dust off my GIS skills!
My education and training
I hold degrees in Energy and Sustainability (MSc), Civil Engineering, and Environmental Sciences. And past training and several years’ experience as a CAD technician in the building sector.
Yes, it sounds like a rather wierd combination of backgrounds! But it has actually been very useful for my current area of work. I blame destiny!
Once I started working in energy efficiency and building performance and decided to develop my career in this field, I’ve taken good care of my continuous professional development. I’ve used all sorts of methods: training courses, certifications, seminars, workshops, conferences, events, webinars… but especially self-learning. In fact, self-learning has proven the most effective way to reach a truly useful level of expertise in these areas, since structured training usually only covers the basics.
Nonetheless, I have also taken structured training and certifications in my main areas of work:

- Dynamic simulations using IES VE
- Operational energy assessment
- Energy efficiency and carbon regulations
- Overheating risk and thermal comfort
- Thermal bridge calculations
- Hygrothermal Risk Assessment
- Passive House
